If you’re looking for a good game to wind down your brain, look no further than the Xbox Live Indie Games title “Rainbow Rapture”. This little gem from Kindling Games is a fun, simple game that’s easy to learn - and easy to get lost in. I decided to take a look at this game based solely on the fact that it had the phrase “destroy humanity” in its description.

In Rainbow Rapture, you take on the role of a cloud named Rainbow, who’s upset because humans have made the earth too gray. Rainbow decides to descend to the surface and eat humanity off the face of the planet. By using momentum from the apparently very hilly landscape, Rainbow has to balance his love of human flesh with his need for air. (Because, you know, clouds aren’t meant to be gliding along streets and green hills.) Rainbow just loves to shout out snarky quips along the way. I think my favorite so far is “Double Rainbow? We’ll show you what it means. Your doom!”

The gameplay is centered around completing challenges such as “Travel 200 miles without hitting the clouds” and “Eat 350 people total”. The trick to the game is balancing sliding along the surface with getting air time, which is what all clouds need to survive. If you run out of “rainbow juice” (as I like to call it), you simply drop dead at your spot. Game over.

The controls are almost ridiculously easy to learn. All you have to do is press the A button while going downhill and release it while going uphill. That said, it’s not by any means an easy game. After several miserable attempts, I finally managed to get some good momentum going. I can’t say that I’ve really figured out any “trick” to the game, but it could just be that I have really bad reflexes with releasing the A button.

At 80 Microsoft Points, this game is a must download. (Side note - if you want to download it, don’t try searching for it or browsing by letter. It took me a while to find it. I’d suggest going to the website and adding it to your account there.) I have to admit that I was surprised by how cheap and simple “Rainbow Rapture” was. The hours of time that I lost on it, however, are a testament to just how fun it is.
